Lack of knowledge is an issue

Slash - FES Agency

A word from Slash Mariana Van Zeller, Co-Founder

“The last almost two years have changed the way people see their health. Many have realized that what we eat has a great impact on our immune system and, at the same time, they are also realizing, (finally!), that it has a huge impact on our planet and the ecosystem that surrounds us, too. These two facts, along with larger media awareness, are muscling the main changes we are witnessing in people’s habits. New trends like intermittent fasting, vitamin supplementation, plant-based diets, plastic-free disposable items, carbon-zero projects and domestic composting are here to stay. They all represent great progress, but we must act carefully as too much of a good thing is a bad thing and, also, there is always a dark side we either can’t see or choose to ignore.

So, unfortunately, there is one last main trend that is occurring that we must be vigilant of and avoid. Most people take actions based on fast, non-proved, social media-powered information. Even governments legislate upon these matters with wrong or little evidence. These uninformed practices we are pursuing may very well be at the center of our near-future problems, since instead of dealing with the most important issue of it all – lack of knowledge –, we are adopting band-aid-like measures only to look good and feel like doing the right thing. As an example, replacing plastic cups with paper cuts seems like a smart swap. However, what many don’t see is that 1) it will increase the production of paper pulp – hence the cutting of more and more trees – and 2) there is no paper cup without and inside plastic coating, otherwise, it wouldn’t retain liquids. So, basically, we are swapping plastic that could be recycled by plastic that is not being recycled (as people assume it is paper) that, on top of that, leads to extra deforestation. Could this be a good measure? Yes! Is it? No! Why? Lack of access to reliable knowledge to make better-informed choices.”

Carbon offsetting is the new Diversity & Inclusion

Aliados Consulting - FES Agency - 3 green challenges for companies

A word from Inês Silva, Managing Partner

“In recent years, organizations, especially tech companies, have developed aggressive diversity and inclusion policies. This happened, not only because it’s the right thing to do, but because, in such a competitive job market, companies have to do their best to distinguish themselves from one another and, potential candidates, increasingly, are paying attention to the Diversity & Inclusion policies when choosing a job.

In 2022, we will see technology companies investing heavily in sustainability and more specifically in reducing and offsetting carbon emissions because this will be another important argument when hiring. A survey published in 2019, said that nearly 40% of millennials have chosen a job because of company sustainability. This number is likely to be even higher with Gen Z, so companies clearly need to up their sustainability game if they want to remain competitive in the job market, in 2022.”

A word from Rui Pimenta, Executive Admin

“The energy transition is a reality increasingly present in our days. The growing increase in investment opportunities, financed by national and European funds, will allow families and companies to improve thermal comfort and consequent quality of life. The year of 2022 will be greener and more sustainable. And we will all win.”
